Authenticate access to Pages documents on iPhone

Pages won't let me open any documents on my iPhone. It says "You need to authenticate before accessing this item." How do I do this?

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities, M-007!

After reading your post, we understand you are attempting to open a file in the iOS Pages app on your iPhone, but get an error that states "You need to authenticate before accessing this item". You've come to the right place to get some help!

If this file is being opened from the Files app on your device, start with the steps in the Apple Support Article Use the Files app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, under the "If you need help" section.

Don't hesitate to respond back if you still need help. Should that be the case, please provide the following information:

  1. What is the iOS version on your iPhone? Example: iOS 14.8. You can find this under Settings > General > About > Version
  2. Does this error occur with all files, or just specific file(s)?
  3. Where were the files created? Example: the Pages app on your phone, or the Pages app on a Mac, or downloaded from the internet, et cetera.

Best!
