Video recording problems

Hi, I can’t seem to be able to record videos on my XR IPhone camera any longer. When I switch to video mode and press the red button the screen goes cloudy for a second and nothing happens. I thought perhaps I was out of storage space, but this is not the case. I have 10 gigs left. I did erase past videos just to see if it would make a difference, it did not. It did this the other day. I played around with it, eventually it worked again, however, I do not remember what I did to make that happen. I am technically impaired as I am a genxer who failed the techno rush. Please forgive my incompetence and help a girl out. Thanks so much!
