Unable to send pictures on MacBook iMessage

Hello,

I have this issue that I can't send pictures/photos using iMessage on my macbook air (running Big Sur). They seem to be sent but after a few seconds there's just a blank blue bubble. Of course, recipients just see a blank as well.

I have tried all the "fixes" I found online and none of them worked. Not sure what to do now.

No trouble sending them through iPhone though.

Hello drprb,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about that difficulty with photos using the Messages app on your MacBook Air.

Is this happening with all your contacts, or only certain ones?

Are you still able to successfully receive photos through Messages on your MacBook Air?

Also, have you had the chance to restart your MacBook Air since you noticed this behavior? Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

Hopefully those details will help to further isolate and address this behavior.

Take care.

drprb,

Does that behavior still persist if you boot your MacBook Air into safe mode using the steps from this article? Start up your Mac in safe mode

It can take a few extra minutes to boot into safe mode. Your screen may also flash or flicker while in safe mode. Those behaviors are expected.

Once you’ve had the chance to test that, you can restart to leave safe mode.

Cheers.

drprb,

Messages is an integrated part of macOS, and there isn't an option to remove it.

Is macOS all up to date? Update macOS on Mac

If so, does that behavior still continue if you create a new user account and test from there? Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Testing in a new user account would help further isolate this to either a system-wide or account-specific conflict.

Regards.

Hello 1ssmith,

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions, it is indeed happening with all my contacts; I have no problem receiving photos; I tried restarting my macbook multiple times but nothing changed.

I've even tried signing out and signing back in to the app. Still nothing.

Best regards.
