Question mark in folder icon at top of Terminal

Hi all,

A couple of days ago I noticed the folder icon in my terminal title bar has a question mark and since I have not been able to install any new libraries, or even do anything.

Google search only yields this link but the solution offered did not help. Is anyone able to advise how to rectify this issue?

My device specs are:

MBP M1

Big Sur 11.5.2

Many thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.5

The window title reflects the working directory of the Shell.

  • If your default is different from the (user) Home folder, i.e. changed to a custom directory, then the opening screen might point to a directory that no longer exists, or is otherwise unavailable.
  • If you resumed a session, then working directory might point to a directory that no longer exists, or is otherwise unavailable.

Try

$exit

and quit the app, then launch again.
