My Mac system preferences does not have an update now button

My “system preferences” does not have an “update now” button. I have looked everywhere that I can think of…I have turned my computer off so I don’t get the new virus or whatever they call it until I can update my operating system.

The Software Update panel did not become available in macOS until Mojave.

In High Sierra, you should click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update...

Or launch App Store and then click Updates at the bottom of the list on the left.
