XS Max green then black screen/phone still works

Yesterday, my XS Max suddenly got a green line and a black line vertical

down my screen and it was still working fine but then that tuned to an entire screen of green and then shortly after started acting “glitchy” such as flashing and blinking, and then right after the entire screen turned black. The phone was still working and was one but I couldn’t see the screen so I restarted my phone and when it turned on the scream still remained black. The phone is charging fine, it rings and receives notifications because I can hear them when I call it or send a message and it is in our family sharing account and I can see it sends the location and also shows when it is charging and how much battery percentage there is. I am hoping it is just a problem with software or a similar issue and want to know who how to proceed to rule out everything I can on my own before I contact Apple for a screen repair that I really cannot afford.
