An iPad may become very warm when being used - in particular when performing graphics or computationally intensive tasks such as playing games.

Whilst the iPad can become very warm, it should never become too hot to hold. If a forced restart of the iPad does not resolve the problem, you would be well advised to return the iPad to your retailer for exchange - or to seek advice directly from Apple Support.

The Apple Support team can be contacted using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. You can also initiate a support call using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your device, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

As a further alternative, you can seek assistance at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:

You can force-restart your iPad by following this procedure:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
