usb superdrive says need power when attached to mac book using adaptor. adaptor power light is on

USB superdrive message says need power when connected to mac book with adapter. Power light on adaptor is on. plugged iPad in, it gets power.

The Apple superdrive requires 900 MilliAmps. The standard for USB-2 devices is 500 MilliAmps.


You can see whether this is your issue by checking here:


 menu > about this Mac > (system report) > USB > ...


...the actual device


should show, along with how much USB power it is requesting and how much can be supplied.
