Previously I have been able to attach mp3 files to an iMessage and the recipient was able to play, download and save the file on their end. Now clicking the mp3 file only opens up a static page of text with the MP3 file name and size on the screen. How do I resolve this?

It seems like when you send MP3 files via iMessage it no longer plays as an audio file. How are you sending these MP3 audio files? Are you using a third party app or you're using the Files app to navigate to the file directly on your phone? You can take a look at this guide that may help:
