Voice Control doesn't work on my mac

Hi, I have MacBook Pro mid 2012, macOS Catalina.

I try to use Voice Control (in English) but it doesn't work.

What could be the problem?

Thanks!

Hello LeeRee,

We see you're having some issues getting Voice Control to work on your Mac, and we'd be happy to help.

Is this the first time you're attempting to use it, or has it worked before? What seems to happen when you try using this feature? For example, any errors?

We'd recommend checking out this link to ensure it's set up properly: Control your Mac and apps using Voice Control

As the link notes, "The first time you turn on Voice Control, files for the selected language are downloaded to your Mac (you must be connected to the internet) and the feedback window appears on the desktop. When Voice Control is ready to use, the microphone icon appears in the window and fluctuates to indicate the volume level."

It can also help to try restarting the Mac as well.

Take care.

LeeRee,

Thanks for the additional info on what you're seeing happen.

We noted you mentioned not seeing the microphone icon show up after turning Voice Control on. As a test, if you haven't yet, try using one of the Voice Control commands, just to see if it may be working in the background still. Some of these can be found here: Control your Mac and apps using Voice Control

If you haven't yet, try disabling Voice Control in System Preferences, restart the Mac, and then re-enable it when it turns back on.

Be sure to also check to see if you're using the latest version of macOS Catalina, as that helps ensure all fixes and improvements for that version are applied. You can find steps for that, if needed here: Update macOS on Mac

Take care.

Thank you for your answer. It is the first time I am trying using Voice control.

On the Accessibility, Voice control window - when I click on the box Enable Voice Control, the computer asks for my User authentication, so I put in my password. But after that, nothing happens: feedback window doesn't appears on the desktop and the microphone icon doesn't show (My mac is constantly connected to the Internet).

Do you know how can I fix it?

Thanks! LeeRee
