Screen Time - can not turn on "Content & Privacy Restrictions"

Hi, I would like to restrict my own access to adult content but am advised not to do so under my Administrator profile. Meaning I would have to create another user to restrict access to that new user. But this is defeating the purpose as I could easily circumvent by changing back to Administrator if I wanted.

Am I doing something wrong here? How can I use Screen Time to block adult content please? Best would be if I could do this with my Administrator profile and simply have a friend manage my Access code.. Thanks!

Hi Nickodemus13,

Thanks for the follow up information! So you were able to get Content & Privacy Restrictions turned on, you added websites to the list, but you're still able to access those websites.

Now based on the images you included, we'd like to confirm one more thing. Are you still able to access these websites in the Safari browser? In the images you attached it looks like you have a browser open in the background that is not Safari, so we just want to be sure you've tested it out.

The web content function of the Content & Privacy Restrictions feature, works in conjunction with the built in browser, Safari. Those restrictions would not work with third party web browsers to block websites. So if the websites are being blocked in Safari, but you're still able to access them in third party browsers, that behavior would be expected. If that is the case, and you normally use a third party web browser, you would need to check with the developer of that browser to see if it has any sort of built in feature or setting to block specific websites.

Thanks again. We look forward to your reply!

Hi Nickodemus13,

Thanks for the confirmation!

Since the web content & filtering function of Screen Time won't work with third party internet browsers, the only option really would be to see if the browsers you use offer any sort of website blocking function.

You'd want to check with Opera, or Google's support to see if either of their browsers offer a capability like that.

Alternatively, you can also try searching the App Store to see if there are any third party applications out there that have the ability to block specific websites in all browsers.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nickodemus13,

We understand your Screen Time settings aren't working. We're happy to help.

To start, we'd suggest providing more specific details about the issue. You said you can't turn on the Content & Privacy Restrictions option, What is happening when you try to turn that on? Is the option not showing up at all? Is it grayed out? Are you getting some sort of error message? If so, what does it say?

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time - much appreciated..)

Actually I can turn it on now but it does not have any effect. Even if I add specific websites to the "restricted" list, I can still open them on any browser. This even after turning it on and off and restarting the computer..

I attach two screen shots so you can see what my settings are - any ideas whats going wrong here? Thanks!
