Unable to pair iPhone 7 with series 2 Apple watch

Hi, i am trying to pair my iphone 7 which has the latest IOS 14.8 installed with my Apple watch series 2 which was unused for the last year. while trying to pair its throwing up a message "To update the software on your Apple Watch, you first need to update the software on your iphone". I've tried resetting the phone multiple times but it doesnt work.

I'm having trouble pairing my Apple Watch with my iPhone I wanted to try the Apple watch so I bought a used one on Swappa, generation 6. I have an iPhone 7+. First I got the message that the iPhone was out of date, and I needed a newer version of IOS even though I had 15.7 installed. I fixed that by soft resetting the iphone and watch. Now the phone will start pairing with the watch, but now it informs me that the watch needs an update. It doesn't matter if the select to do the update or skip it the pairing process starts, fails, a notice briefly flashes on the screen that I can't read, and then reverses, unpairs the phone. Why won't my previously paired iphone 6plus, IOS 12.4.4, pair with Apple watch 2? When attempting to pair Apple watch 2 with iPhone 6plus, IOS 12.4.4, it states the phone needs to update its software. However the phone states it is up to date. Cant seem to figure out what to do next. I've reset the watch to factory settings... however that seems to have no effect.

Problems trying to pair iPhone 6 with an Apple Watch When I try to pair my phone with a first generation Apple Watch, it gets as far as checking software and then says iPhone software needs to be updated but phone says it has the latest software. The watch has been reset and my phone never had a Watch paired with it before. Any suggestions?

If you see "Unable to install update" when trying to update Apple Watch Series 1 or Series 2
