Domestic Roaming iPhone 12 pro

Recently switched to Verizon upon moving to middle Tennessee.. was told by sales rep that coverage was excellent.

In our new home, there are two spots that “occasionally” get 1 bar of LTE…

same with anyone who visits… except those with AT&T service… who get full signal!

On the phone repeatedly with Verizon tech teams, who can’t or won’t explain WHY new phone won’t switch network with mobile roaming on… older iPhones offered the choice to switch network manually… but also switched automatically to the stronger signal.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?? Verizon says it’s AT&T, or Apple… but definitely not them…

I am not sure which older iPhone you are referring to.

Change your cellular data number

One number at a time can use cellular data. To change which number uses cellular data, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Tap Cellular Data.
  4. Tap the number you want to use cellular data.

If you turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching, then while you're on a voice call on your voice-only number, that number automatically switches to use voice and data.* This lets you use both voice and data while on the call.

If you turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching and you're active on a voice number that isn't your designated cellular-data number, then cellular data won't work while you're on the call.

To turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap either Cellular or Mobile Data.
  3. Tap Cellular Data.
  4. Turn on Allow Cellular Data Switching.

* Your data line switches automatically for the duration of your call. This cellular-data switching will not work if you are currently using Data Roaming. Check with your carrier for availability and to find out if additional fees apply.

On previous iPhones I’ve owned, you could go to setting/ cellular/ network and toggle either manual or auto…

I was with T Mobile for years, and if you were traveling through say, Wyoming, the network would switch to AT&T or US Cellular when you went out of range of T Mobile towers…

not sure if it’s a proprietary Verizon issue…

Only ever had one number… nothing fancy!

This was also the case internationally…

it would switch carriers / networks often while traveling through Europe, Korea, Japan… etc. as they have multiple providers in each country.

I do, if you are in an area where Verizon does not do business (not the same thing as a weak signal) and Verizon has a contract with AT&T it will let you roam on AT&T. If you are in an area where Verizon does business it will not do that. Same thing in reverse. And international roaming is an entirely different thing.
