Roland V-Drums MIDI not seen by Logic Pro

I am trying to use a Roland V-Drum kit as input for Logic in order to be able to record each drum hit as a MIDI event so i can change the sounds post performance.

The brain for the Roland is old. It's a TDW-1 with standard MIDI DIN connectors. That is feeding a Roland UM-ONE MIDI to USB convertor which is plugged directly into a USB port on a 2012 Mac mini running the one-version-prior-to-current version of Mojave and the latest version of Logic Pro. The USB tree info in About This Mac shows the UM-ONE as connected, but Logic does not see the V-Drums module that the UM-ONE is connected to. I have already tried adding it as a device manually in Audio MIDI Setup. Doing that results in a device I named V-Drums showing up as an output option in the Audio settings of Logic. In the MIDI preferences of Logic, all other MIDI devices (a keyboard, a Helix guitar processor, and a breath controller all connected to a hub plus a Presonus StudioLive 32R connected directly) are seen as expected.

I downloaded the UM-ONE driver. But the most recent version is listed as being for macOS 10.12. And install gave me the warning that it would not be compatible in a future version so i know it would not work with Catalina or BS. But the USB tree sees it correctly and I've checked all of the MIDI settings in the TDW-1 and the lights on the UM-ONE light up. But for the life of me, i can't get any actual signal to pass to Logic.
