Is it okay to use clamshell mode, when my Mac book is connected to an external display, will it ruin the battery since, in order to use clamshell mode, you have to have the MacBook connected to the power.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Yes, you can use clamshell mode while powered, your battery will be fine.
