Apple TV+ UI

I seem to be overlooking a configuration option in Apple TV+ apps on smart TVs and in Chromecast with Google TV. When I'm watching a TV series and finish an episode, the UI defaults to/selects the first episode of the season. For example, upon completion of episode 8 of a series, the UI defaults to/selects the first episode of the season. To watch the next episode, one must access the list of episodes and then scroll to episode 9. Is there an option to change this behavior?

Likewise, the list of episodes for a given series doesn't indicate which episode(s) has/have been watched (or not watched). Is it possible for an individual to enable this functionality? It's very frustrating to go back to a series that hasn't been watched in a while and not be able to quickly/efficiently pick up with the first unwatched episode. Obviously, this is somewhat related to the question/issue above.

Hello PsTJsT,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about watching that TV series in the Apple TV app.

Does that still persist if you use the steps from this article to add the show to the Up Next queue? Watch Now in the Apple TV app

If so, you’ll want to reach out to Apple Support so they can look into this further: Contact Apple Support

Take care.

While I don’t have a Chromecast with Google TV device, the Apple TV app is supposed to function as described in the guide: Apple TV app for smart TVs and third party streaming devices - Apple Support

Watch Now and Up Next are available in the real app on devices, but not on the web.

Play history and progress is administrated on your account, hence signing in with your Apple ID account is needed.

Watched episodes should get a checkmark in the corner of the artwork.

Partially watched episodes should get a partially filled timeline over the artwork.

The next unwatched or partially watched episode would be listed in Up Next.

Karina, thank you for responding. Unfortunately the "Watch Now in the Apple TV app" page you linked doesn't exist.

Also, as I understand it, the Up Next que for Apple TV+ doesn't exist in Apple TV apps available on smart TVs, in Chromecast with Google TV, or when streaming via a browser. Per other Apple Community forum posts, the Up Next que seems accessible only when one is using Apple hardware. This is the reason I posted my question. I'm surprised functionality such as I described in my original post seems to be hardware-bound rather than part of the software UI - so I was wondering whether I was missing a configuration option.

Hi Urquhart, thank you for your response. I completely agree with your comments regarding how everything is supposed to function and what should be happening. Unfortunately, what I'm able to see in my Apple TV apps isn't reconciling with the supposed to's or the should's. I have a call scheduled with Apple Tech Support so hopefully I'll be able to sort things out following that call.
