Email folders while offline.

I have moved some travel related email on my iPhone into folders for later reference. Apparently I am not able to read (or even see) these emails when I am offline. Is this an error or is there a way to retain IMAP email for offline access?

Hi Walden380,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with viewing your emails that have been moved into folders. We'd like to help.

Are these the steps you took to set up your travel mailbox: Use mailboxes to organize email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Are these emails part of an iCloud account or a 3rd party email? When you view the email through webmail, are you able to open those emails?

You mentioned that you are not able to open these emails when offline. Does your iPhone have cellular service? Do you have Mail enabled under Settings > Cellular? This way your mail should still load when not connected to Wi-Fi.

Let us know if that helps.

Take care!

Hello ColleenD1,

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my inquiry but I have to say, I’m a little offended by your reply. I’m not sure you read my question. “Off-line” means off-line. No WiFi, no cellular signal, etc.

Specifically, I have placed email items into folders with Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Comcast Mail, and iCloud Mail. These were all IMAP accounts. These email items contained information I wanted to retrieve when OFF-LINE such as on an airplane, on a sailboat in the middle of the ocean, or in some wilderness location.

Obviously, these Mail items are still on the server and therefore accessible by webmail. But when OFF-LINE using webmail is obviously not possible.

Specifically, I want to know if it’s possible to download mail items (in folders) from the server so that they are local on my iPhone or iPad?
