iPad Crashes when booting

My iPad (model A2197) is stuck in a loop where the apple logo displayed for 4-5 seconds, then the screen flickers and it crashes to a black screen and the process starts again. I can stop the loop by holding the power/home button which seems to switch it off, but it starts again on power up or connection to power / my iMac.

I am unable to use the restore option from Finder as the iPad will not boot far enough for the iMac to recognise it.

Any suggestions - it was working fine last night but woke up to it behaving like this this morning.

Try a "forced" restart of your iPad 7th gen, using these instructions:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top (power) button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 20-40 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear).

If the issue persists, it might be also a hardware (digitizer?) issue, but we, just users like you, cannot diagnose that problem remotely.

Contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Get Support, or make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
