Getting an authentication code on a broken phone

Hey everyone, I’m trying to set up my new phone but it’s requiring the authentication code from my old one. Unfortunately, the screen doesn’t work at all on that phone and I don’t have any other devices associated with the account. Following the directions on screen it asked me to verify with a code through email, and then to change the phone number so I used my girlfriends number. However now it’s saying I have to wait 20 hours before they’ll decide if that’s ok. This seems beyond ridiculous just to set up a new phone. Looking at other similar posts and apple help pages, says to login online and remove that device there but you can’t login online without the same code! Please if anyone has any advice I’d appreciate it, thank you!

Hello H_Hi,

We understand that you're experiencing an issue with receiving a verification code, and we'd like to help out.

"Whenever you sign in with your Apple ID on a new device or browser, you'll confirm your identity with your password plus a six-digit verification code. There are a few ways you can get a verification code. You can use the code displayed on your trusted device, get a text or phone call, or generate a code from your trusted device."

For more information on the options and alternate ways to receive a verification code, please check out this link: Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

It also sounds like you may have requested account recovery. If account recovery has already been requested, please check out the "After you start account recovery" section of this link with information on the next steps: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password

Take care.
