Are you in one of those regions and is your device correctly set to that region?

If yes, in Camera app, while using back/rare facing camera, tap on preview to set focus on text, then beside zoom controls (above on-screen shutter button) you should see icon to view live text.

Point your camera at something with text on it.

Tap the area with the text.

It should have a yellow box around it .

Look in the lower right area, a box with squiggles looking like writing should appear

Tap it.

What happens if you point your camera at something with text?

Works for me, so I'm not sure what to tell you.

Ok, found an article that says it requires the a12 bionic chip or later.

That would mean it requires an XS or later.
