I honestly can't say they have or haven't. I've never take getting an iPhone on launch by chance. I ALWAYS pre-order the moment orders go live. We were fortunate to get both the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max order in to get them this Friday. They'll be delivered to the house, then we'll take them to our Apple Store to have screen protectors installed, before they're even turned on.

Interesting to see that this year Apple is offering a higher end Otter Box Screen protector, which is of course even a little more expensive than the Belkin Screen Protectors.

Used to regularly lunch with an Apple Store manager in Dallas, they carefully control the pre-orders (which didn't exist when I purchased my iPhone 3G) to ensure that they have release day stock for all of their Stores as well as cell service providers and Authorized resellers such as Best Buy, etc.

Since the pre-orders started the lines at stores are much shorter (the line for the iPhone 4 was 15 times longer than the one for the 3G and I went there 3 hours earlier) but I have been to the Apple Store for other reasons on launch day (including last year) and the lines are short with two of them, one for people with appointments to pick up their pre-orders and the other for people wishing to buy a phone. If you are there for something else you have to tell them at the front door with specifics as to what you need. Then each day after that they have a sign on an easel telling whether they have any iPhones that day. You can also check after midnight to see what is available for the next day.

According to one of my sources on release day the model that goes first is the 256GB Pro Max with the newest color. Right after that it is Pro Max with the most storage (this year 1TB) although this year the Pro models have the same cameras so it may be different. The ones that had at the end of the day last year were gold models.

I did the line once. I wanted to do it. Been there, never doing it again. It was when iPhone 6 was released. I got up at 4:00 AM, got to the Apple Store at 5:00 AM to get in line with hundreds of people who were already in line. It was sort of fun. Didn't get in the mall till 1:30 PM, to get into the inside like (so Disney-esque), to finally get placed outside the store, where a store employee came and got me and gave me my phone. I didn't leave the mall until 2:30 PM.

While I met some nice folks and some of the restaurants offered free food to us, I got that out of my system, never to be repeated again!
