Unable to Sync or Transfer Music

iTunes Version: 9.2.1
iPod Touch: 2nd Gen
OS Version: 4.0
Computer OS: Windows 7

Other info: My iPod library is manually managed.

Background info: Awhile ago I used to get an error (code 0xE8000065) every time I plugged in my iPod. My iPod would not appear in iTunes. I resolved this by enabling C-State in my bios.

Now, my iPod appears in iTunes, but every time I try to transfer music or apps from my library to my iPod I get one of several error messages:

[*] The application "X" was not installed on the iPod "X" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8004006).
[*] Attempting to copy to the disk "X" failed. An unknown error occurred (0xE8004006).
[*] The iPod "X" cannot by synced. An internal device error occurred.
[*] iTunes could not copy "X" to the iPod "X" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8004006).
[*] Attempting to copy to the disk "X" failed. A diplicate file name was specified.
[*] iTunes could not copy "X" to the iPod "X" because an unknown error occurred (-48).
[*] Attempting to copy to the disk "X" failed. There are too many files open currently.
[*] iTunes could not copy "X" to the iPod "X" because an unknown error occurred (0xE8004017).
[*] iTunes could not copy "X" to the iPod "X" because an unknown error occurred (-42).

I've tried reinstalling iTunes, resetting my iPod, restoring my iPod, restarting iTunes, using a different cable, and using a usb port in the back of the computer. I don't know what the problem could be. I'd really appreciate any help.

OK, I finally sync the "iPod touch" consistently and everything is sweet.
After setting up an old PC with XP, basically barebones, everything worked fine with iPod/iTunes. I then loaded CA antivirus and still everything was OK.
I had another XP PC that had the "no iPod sync" problem like this Vista PC. They have one thing in common - they both run Bullguard Anti-virus. I deactivated all Bullguard Auto start-ups through "Admin tools - Windows Security center - Component Services - Services (local)" and you guessed it, that fixed the problem.
I couldn't figure out the same process on Vista (Why do Microsoft have to do everything different from one version to the next?) so I contacted Bullguard and they claim to have the problem licked in version 10. So I upgraded my Vista PC to version 10 and everything is sweet at last.

CONCLUSION
If you are running Bullguard antivirus I suggest you upgrade to their version 10 asap.
If you are having similar problems but using another antivirus then try to de-activate it and check the result.
Note also that if you go through the Apple help on this fault condition there are six items worth checking. The antivirus issue is item 5. If that fails it's worth checking the others. Contrary to popular belief, Apple aren't stupid. It seems they have seen this one before and no I don't work for apple.
