There are many changes within iPadOS15 - of which one is the loss of the Today view on the first Home Screen.
Whilst you are now able to freely position widgets on any of the Home Screens, you have lost the “compact” first Home Screen layout (that shows a compressed 4x6 grid of App/Folder icons and Today view). Now, without the compressed view, Widgets individually occupy elements of the 4x6 icon grid - and will displace some App/Folder icons as necessary.
The net effect of adding Widgets to the Home Screen(s) results in reduced efficiency in using available screen space on Home Screens.
Apple do invite constructive feedback, comments and feature requests via their product feedback pages. For iPad and iPadOS:
You are encouraged to make use of this facility in expressing any views concerning issues, bugs, or functionality changes of which you are unhappy.

Indeed - but the point being made by the OP is that the Today View is not persistently visible on the Home Screen - which for many is a desirable feature of iPadOS.
This missing feature corresponds with the Today View - Keep Today View on Home Screen setting in iPadOS14.x
The app layout is horrible. There is massive empty space around this compressed layout. Even adding widgets doesn’t help. They just fit into this tiny narrow space on the Home Screen leaving massive empty “margins” on either side.
if this is how apple upgrades the user experience, I don’t want to use the iPad anymore.
Indeed.. i very much liked the ability to scroll up and down the view, all from the comfort and convenience from the Home Screen 😕..as Lotus said, i will give the feedback and see where it gets us, but as you say in terms of user experience its a poor shout from Apple
The reason for the change is that you can have widgets anywhere on ANY Home sceen and multiple instances of the same widgets on any Home screen.
The old version was always stuck on the first Home screen all the time.
So, if you were on another Home screen page on your iPad, you had to swipe back to the first Home screen page all the time to go back to accessing a widgets.
With this new version, you can place widgets anywhere you want on any Home screen for any widgets you use/reference all the time
Widgets have become more dynamic and flexible and NOT fixed to one location, any longer..
The old version of always stock was much better
in my opinion lol but guess I am not brave having it easily in one location knowing or it always was and easily usable and not causing a mess lol
thanks for explaining the unwanted upgrade feature lol.
reply to Apple with their official feedback l
Are you referring to this:
If so it’s still there but you have to swipe all the way to the left to make it come up.
You are correct. It is not missing however it is removed. You can now place widgets directly on the home screen.

So… i can’t have the today view docked onto my Home Screen as before in ios14. - i dont really want widgets i was very happy with how it was - is there no way of doing this now?
At present, with iOS 15, that option is not available.

Ok thanks for the quick reply - hopefully this will be re-introduced
Understood
