Converting .heic to .pdf (or .jpeg) w/o uploading to a service

I have no idea if this answer had been posted already but here's a way for converting .heic to .pdf or .jpg on Mac. This is great if for example, you are sending a iPhone pic of your license, or say, your dog's rabies certificate to a company that requests it. From your iPhone an image might not open on the other end unless they open on an iPhone. Might be better to send in a more download-friendly format.

Instead of using a paid or free service, Mac OS has a native converter in Preview.

I'm using Big Sur (11.6):

  1. From icloud.com locate and download your image (.heic) to Mac desktop
  2. Click on image (Preview should automatically open)
  3. Click on File>Export...
  4. A popup will ask you to name the file as well as give you options to save to:

.jpeg, pdf, png, etc.
