Apple Watch wrist detection

So, I have a watch series 5 and I also have tattoos. So when using the watch I have to strategically place it on a blank spot of skin in between two lines and this is now the norm and works every day all day.

since updating to OS8 I just can’t seem to get it to stay on without locking, I can place it on and tighten and it’ll be fine for a couple mins then the screen just goes black and I’ve to unlock it again. I know I could use without wrist detection and a pass code but I’d like it to track my daily business aswell as have my Apple Pay available if needed. Looking to see if anyone else has the same issue or has had similar issues with tattoos and apple watches.
