What will happen if my new Mac has 250 GB of storage, but my Time Machine back up is 320 GB?

I bought a new Macbook Pro that has 250 GB of storage, but upon backing up my current Macbook Pro I realized that my full Time Machine back up is 316 GB. What will happen if I try to move my files to the new Macbook Pro with Time Machine? Will it give me the option to not move some of the files?

Should I try to delete files and get down to under 250GB before I move everything over?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3
