iPad OS15 - “Large icons” don’t work on iPad mini 4
Just updated to iPad OS15 and the icons on the Home Screen are small with little space between them.
Changing the settings to “Use Large App Icons” does nothing.

Hey there, Gavilon,
Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. If we understand, you'd like to enlarge the app icons on your iPad mini 4, but it doesn't seem to be working when you try. We're happy to help!
First, make sure you're following the steps in Zoom in on the iPad screen - Apple Support.
If you are and still cannot get the icons and display size the way you'd like, try restarting the iPad: Restart your iPad - Apple Support.
Don't hesitate to respond back if you still need help.
Best!
Hi Lindsey:
It’s not the zoom I’m talking about. It’s the arrangement
of the icons on the Home Screen.
This is what the Home Screen used to look like:
This is what it looks like after migrating to iPad OS 15:
Toggling between Large and Small icons on the Home Screen
settings makes no difference.
This issue does not occur on my iPad Air. When I get the
iPad mini 6 in a few days I’ll see if this issue is resolved.
If you have access to the iPad mini 4, I would be
interested to see if you experience the issue I describe above.
Thanks again for your help.
Stuart
I have the same problem. After upgrading to iPadOS15, all my app icons on the Home Screen is stuck in “dense, small app icon” setting, and will not change the badge size even if I go to my display settings and re-select “large app icon”
I did a hard reser, and that didn’t. Help either.
i also have iPad mini4 wifi
In iOS 15, on 6th gen iPad, Tried home screen & doc/use large app icon toggle. Does not work. Is there some other setting that may be influencing the forced standard(small) app icons ? Btw, upgrade went smooth, no burps.

The more I look at them, the big icons are bigger than the small ones, but the spacing is tighter in iOS 15 than it used to be which makes it harder to read. Anyone from Apple know if this can be adjusted either manually or via iOS update?
I agree, the use large app icons does indeed work, (after hours of tinkering and toggleing back and forth) however the display matrix is frozen to 6x5. This gives the appearance the large icon toggle does not work. What is needed is either a selection for matrix sizing, or automatic adjustment back to previous ios settings of 5x4.
IMHO some young(er) developers nailed this down to make some other part of their work ‘easier’. Beta never noticed it, since my grand kids (with their perfect eyesight) and zillions of apps have no issues with it. Those of us who use the iPad on the go for nav/entertainment/emergency while flying/boating/driving are having a VERY tough time hitting the correct icon while bouncing around.
Put a bug in Apple’s ear !
BTW, Apples site threw me out a dozen times attempting this reply telling me my session expired…..NOT !
Between this icon spacing issue (apparently removed from beta 5 (?)), and the MASSIVELY annoying quick note bottom right swipe, I’m actually thinking of reverting to 14.8.
Looks like both these ‘issues’ were addressed in betas after all.
But…
Functionality lost the battle to features in this upgrade.
BTW, once again Apple denies my response posts continually indicating
“Your session has expired. Please log in again to restore your reply.”
What is up with that ?
So disappointed with Apple. Icons on iPad Mini are far too small, especially as I keep them in folders! Just too tiny to see. Selecting “large icons” does not work. Please can we have a fix for this.
I have the same issue on my iPad. The ‘home’ screen has larger app icons (and the new widgets), while the other screens are all reduced. Enlarging via Settings does not make any difference.
Same on 7th gen 10.2" iPads here. I seem to remember a setting for icon spacing but don't see it anymore. I presume Apple decided we preferred cramped home screens.
"Put 'em back the way they wuz!"
