Hi charleseub,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. At this time, there isn't an option where you can disable Apple Pay. However, there are some things you can do to stop using it temporarily.

To stop Apple Pay from working, you can remove your cards here: Manage the cards that you use with Apple Pay

In addition, you may also toggle off the option for your cards and passes to appear when double-clicking the side button from Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay. You'll want to note that this won't disable you from using Apple Pay on other apps.

If you'd like to leave any feedback regarding this directly to Apple, we'd recommend doing so from Product Feedback.

Take care.

Thanks. I knew I could remove the credit card, but that seemed like a cumbersome and drastic solution to the problem. This is what happened recently:

I was getting ready to board a train. I had my ticket displayed on my phone. I held the phone over the ticket scanner, and Apple Pay popped up and my credit card filled the screen, obscuring my ticket. I had to try several times before I got it to work. Needless to say, the people on line behind me were not sympathetic.

This is a design flaw. Apple Pay should not be triggered by a ticket scanner, or there should be a way to switch it off for the 5 seconds it takes to scan a ticket. If I’ve missed something, please tell me; otherwise I’ll send feedback to Apple.
