When I click on clear history it is blue and nothing happens. The history remains. Normally it would change from blue to gray prior to iOS 15 and the history would clear, but right now it’s doing that.

Hi yancycook,
We understand you're having issues being able to clear your history and cookies from Safari. Could you elaborate in further details on what occurs when you attempt to do this? Are you unable to accomplish this because the option for it has turned gray?
If the option is gray, we'd recommend reviewing the article you came from again. According to the article, it states:
"When there's no history or website data to clear, the setting turns gray. The setting might also be gray if you have web content restrictions set up under Content & Privacy Restrictions in Screen Time."
Cheers.
I’m able to clear my safari history, however when I go to the iTunes app I can’t clear my Siri search history whenever I tap clear it doesn’t work, I’ve tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, I’ve tried turning off Siri and even tried fully turning off my phone… no matter what I do I can’t clear my Siri search history.
I really hope this annoying bug gets fixed in a future update…
I am having the same problem PLUS I cannot open “show comments” section in the Wall Street Journal which I could do before the 15.1 update. This update has been nothing but a huge headache and source of frustration. I hope the techies at Apple will remedy this faulty update.
I have an iPhone 11 running on iOS 15.1 And for whatever reason whenever I go to the iTunes app I’ll go to the top right of the app and click on the button that leads to “previews“ “ search list“
And “Siri” whenever I try to delete my Siri search history, i’ll tap clear but it doesn’t work… for whatever reason I cannot clear my Siri search history in iTunes, I really hope this bug gets fixed soon
in a future updates❤️❤️❤️
I have the same problem now on my latest iPad after I updated to iOS 15. I have one cookie that can’t be deleted and has (reportedly) zero bytes.
I had this problem before on my old iPad (iOS 9) and I phoned Apple UK and reported the problem (issue was never resolved). I’m sure I researched this previously and it was ‘known about’ back then.
The only suggestion that had any credibility was to restore to factory and reload everything again. I couldn’t be bothered and promised myself not to buy another iPad again, well, that was a promise I didn’t keep.
It may be completely unfair but Apple are more interested in making money for themselves and app providers than they are in protecting their customers privacy? Well, it’s an opinion I remember from back with mY iOS9 query and it seemed reasonable to me but then I am always prepared to believe the worst.
Additionally, I can’t even turn my phone off. I was going to turn it off to try to see if rebooting helped, but it just sat there and wouldn’t let me swipe the off button. I’m very annoyed. We need a fix now!
I have the issue now and also had it back in iOS9. Gave up on trying to fix it and then all of a sudden after about 6 months or so there was an update that resolved the problem.
Opened up a care ticket on the latest incarnation and after an "appointment", screen sharing session, etc. the support specialist reported it was a known issue. Annoying at best, perhaps alarming from the thought of what kind of exploits could be out there if a simple supercookie or somesuch with 0 bytes cannot be deleted.
Currently two of my phones (work and personal) are affected. Upgraded my personal line to iOS 15 after my company device and absolutely made sure the history was clear before proceeding with the upgrade. What's also interesting is the site that shows up is for a restaurant where I used a QR code to grab a menu *MANY* months and *MANY* history clears ago. Don't use iCloud for Safari or messages either.
I'd be pleased if Apple would just acknowledge the problem in public.
Nichoas_B2 - May we have an update on this thread?
I have an iPad running iOS 15.1 set up for children. Before giving it to the child, I've done a "test run" to try and see how I could circumvent content controls and how they might "cover their tracks".
Well...in iOS 15.1 you can't clear your history and cache -- at all -- it seems. And now my "test run" data can not be deleted.
Please advise? This ticket has been outstanding for, it seems, a few months?
With thanks,
A number of us acquired this issue after a recent IOS update, in my case, to 15.2 today. No, the option is not greyed out it's blue. In my case the issue is an incomplete history clearance as after I instruct Safari to Clear History and Website Data most items do delete, but three remain and seem impossible to delete. I have also clicked advanced and selected the items and deleted individually. The items go but immediately reappear. I believe these are called 'super cookies' or 'ever cookies' and short of a factory reset impossible to delete from the Iphone.

I have this issue too. 3 supercookies on my iphone which cannot be deleted, albeit after the 15.2 update, not 15 update. One of the sites is the UK government main website. This I find deeply disturbing. I am not allowed to type that address here as that would break Apple support guidelines (I did include in a post just now and a moderator removed it) however it would be interesting to know 1) how many other people have undeleteable cookies from that website, 2) what these cookies do and 3) how to remove them!
Updated to 15.2 and not only can I not clear my history on my iPad but safe search is locked on and I have the settings for both Yahoo & Google to not filter results. Me thinks 15.2 is wrought with problems!
@runawaygringo Hi I realise you're trying to be helpful, but I already know how to clear the cache, history and website data on my IPhone having done this daily for many years. The issue concerned 3 persistent cookies, sometimes known as super cookies or ever cookies that would not clear and Safari windows that had to be closed manually. Clearing history and data made no difference to these supercookies.
This has turned out to be an Apple bug, which many of us assumed it was, solved by 15.4.1 update for me at least.
This article has steps on how to clear cache on iPhone, including history and website data. Hope this helps!
Same problem here. I restarted my iPhone but no difference. I hope this bug will be fixed in iOS 15.1
