Cannot delete shared calendar

About a year ago, someone shared their calendar with me and lately I have been receiving notifications for it. I have tried to delete the calendar several times (probably upwards of 20-30 times) and it keeps coming back (not asking permission to be added again, just appearing back up in my list of calendars). I have also tried just "unchecking" the calendar and not deleting it, but this does not work either. I have tried logging onto iCloud to see if I could force a delete this way but it was shared with my gmail which is then linked to my apple calendar. I do not know what more to do to get this to go away.

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. We understand you are having trouble removing a calendar that was previously shared with you. We're happy to help!

Please take a look over the information in Share iCloud calendars on iPhone - Apple Support, particularly the steps on hiding notifications and deleting calendars.

You mention that it was shared via Gmail to iCloud. Have you checked with your Gmail account to see if you're able to view it there, and delete it through Gmail?
