How does an API, developed by Apple engineers, on an iPhone running iOS, put Google on your iPhone?

Yes, the two companies worked together on a strategy of how the API, and apps to be used with it should work in order to have some consistency and make it easier for developers, and also on what to trace, how to report it, etc., but the APIs were developed completely separately as an API written for Android does not function on a phone running iOS and vice versa. People who use the Google API likewise do not have Apple on their Android phones.

There is absolutely nothing whatsoever in the Apple API (do you actually know how an API works?) that would put any thing from Google on your iPhone and it will not transfer any kind of information to Google or to some random android phones. Even if you put a government tracing app on your iPhone you will have to install the iOS version from the Apple App Store and it will only report to the government agency.

Where in the world did you get the idea that this puts Google on your iPhone? Do you have a link? (And yes, I have looked at the API).

No, that is totally incorrect. As has already been stated Apple and Google worked together for a contact tracing ability but the APIs are not identical and the one for Android will not install and run on iOS. The API allows agencies developing tracing apps to work with it to tie into the device and if the owner of the iPhone opts to download and install such an app and turn on the API the tracing will work. It does nothing if the user of the iPhone chooses (A) to turn it off and (B) not install a 3rd party tracing app.

It does not in any way, form or function put Google on your iPhone. I would be interested to see your research and numbers of how many people are actually using it, in countries where the government released apps it is reportedly used by a high percentage of Android and iOS users and the same in some US states that did so. I'm in Texas where no such app was released so you are correct for us, no one is using it.

Did you read anything we've written? Clearly NOT. Google won't be on your phone. Even if you opted in to the API, which requires an app in your state, Google WON'T be on your phone. The API would be an Apple API. Not a Google API. Google and Apple partnered to put this together, so people could OPT-IN to Covid tracing if they wanted to AND their state had an application in the first place. But Google would be on Android phones. And Apple would be on iPhones.

You so clearly have no clue or understanding of what you're complaining about. If you are unwilling to listen or understand this, there really is no point in continuing this discussion.

So DON'T TURN IT ON. If you don't opt in, no one is tracking anything on your phone. Not Google. Not Apple. If you think they are, you are COMPLETELY misinformed.

There......Problem solved.

Why this is an issue is beyond me. YOU DON'T have to opt in. I'd personally love to opt in. But I live in a state where it's not even an available option.

Please show me anything where Google said they put an API on iOS devices that reports information to them.

Apple actually came up with the idea to allow a tracing ability on the iPhone to help with the pandemic and then Google joined with Apple in recommending it and came up with the API for phones running compatible versions of the android OS. Apple's API was developed first. And if you don't trust google then why are you believing them?

But show us where Google said this?

And by the way yours is that first post I have ever seen that says this.

It’s a google api that allows android phones to communicate (access) iPhones. That was googles entire purpose for it. It’s a backdoor key they created to allow them access to iPhones. And Apple absurdly allowed it into our iOS. It’s being used by virtually nobody... NOBODY! (Government or otherwise!) to facilitate “contact notification” (never googles intent anyway!) and so it is pointless to have in the iOS anymore. It’s time to jettison it already and get google out of our iPhones.

“Who cares”? Maybe those of us who purchased iPhones for their privacy protections and are surprised that Apple added google’s program to our iOS system to allow them to access our phones because we don’t want our iPhones infiltrated by google to steal all our private information to sell to anyone and everyone willing to buy it through every android phone in Bluetooth range?!
