Can iPad fully replace a MacBook?

Hi,

I have a 2011 MacBook and wonder if a iPad can fully replace this. I usually use my MacBook for browsing webpages, music programs like Reaper, some amateur personal photo/video editing and some business use like making presentations with pptx, Keynote, Excel and pdf. I also use a iPhone 11pro max. What concerns me from my experiences on my phone is that in many cases when entering some websites I get notifications that I have to log in on computer and the service isn’t provided on the iPhone. So my question is then do iPad use the same type of system as a computer and is this different on iPad or do I still have to use computer for this issue.

Thanks!

Some websites incorrectly identify your iOS/iPadOS Safari User Agent when used in one or other of its browsing modes - of which their are two - these being Desktop and Mobile.

It’s easy to switch between modes if a website isn’t functioning correctly. From the desired web-page, touch the aA icon at the left of the Address Bar; this will reveal a menu. From the menu select Website Settings, then select (or deselect) Request Desktop Website, then tap Done. Now refresh the webpage.

The chosen setting will be saved for the selected website - and can be simply reversed if needed.

Despite creative and optimistic marketing by Apple - and whilst iPad and iPad Pro are wonderful companion devices - they are still not a replacement for a “full” computer.

If your intent is to substitute a MacBook of any variety with an iPad, you’ll quickly discover its not inconsiderable shortcomings, For your needs, you may need something with far more flexibility than iPad can offer.

If you can afford both MacBook and iPad, you’ll have an ideal combination of portability and utility. If you must chose one over the other, as much as I believe a modern iPad to be an awesome device, then I would seriously recommend that you look to the MacBook.

In professional IT environments, PC, Linux - and to a much lesser extent, Mac - continue to dominate as full workstation and laptop devices.

Others here will surely be along to offer their own take, but I doubt that any serious recommendations will be seen for iPad as a primary device in the target environment.

I hope this insight proves to be helpful in constructively informing your thought processes.
