iPod 2nd gen problems

I have 2. Neither is being recognized by either of my computers. Either no shows in the iTunes window or icons appear and won't accept new files.

Batteries? Reset needed?

Help appreciated.

As you're seeing that the iPod doesn't appear at times, let's work through the following resource to see if that helps:


If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod


If that isn't helpful with what you're seeing, let's check to make sure that iTunes is updated to the latest version. In addition to that, you may need to use Finder if you're using a Mac with macOS Catalina or newer so be sure to check Finder if that's what you're using. For help with either of these, take a look at the following resources and be sure to test a different cable to rule that out.

Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer
