Mouse lags when using external display in clamshell

I´ve got a Macbook Air 2017, and a few days ago I bought an external display. I don't have a lot of space in my desk, so I decided to put my mac in clamshell mode and use only the external monitor as the main one, and now I'm suffering with awful cursor lag.

The funny thing is this only happens while using the mac on clamshell mode. If I keep it open, it works just fine. This is very annoying, I really do not have the space on my desk to have two monitors.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it?

Hey nicolle296,

It sounds like you're having issues with your Mac running slowly when using an external monitor. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend trying the steps here: If your Mac runs slowly

If that doesn't help, we'd suggest testing to see if the same issue occurs in safe mode. This article explains how: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Thanks!
