I've got an iPad Air 4th gen, and for travel reasons I went out and got a Belkin usb portable charger. However, as the iPad is supposed to accept and give out charge, it is charging the portable charger. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed do to get my iPad charging via the portable, not the other way around.

Instead of connecting the cable first to the iPad and then to the PowerBank - connect first to the PowerBank and then to the iPad. Reversing the USB-C connection sequence reverses the direction.
This is just one of the features of the USB PD (Power Delivery) protocol.

Again, strange, but an interesting solution for this dilemma.
Never thought THIS would be an issue with USB-C connector iPads.
Making sure the connection procedure happens in the proper direction and sequence.
I'll have to try hard to try and remember this.

That seems to be the logical way to do it, but it didn't solve my problem. I'm still charging the portable with the iPad :)
