Connecting Apple Magic Keyboard with 2 Macbook Pros

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to connect Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse with 2 Macbook Pros. I think a KVM switch can be used in this situation but how I will connect Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse with the KVM switch as both keyboard and mouse are bluetooth without a dongle and I dont think there are ways to connect bluetooth keyboard/mouse to KVM.

Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro (2020 and later)

There are a few different software KVM solutions which would require installing the software on both Mac's and you could use a single keyboard / mouse / trackpad across both Mac's but both Mac's also need to be on the same network. If you were to VPN one Mac into a private network it would prevent the software KVM from working.

The new macOS Monterey is adding the ability to work across multiple Apple Devices much like a software KVM built-in to the operating system. It is called Universal Access. You can do it with up to 3 devices. They demo'd using an iPad, a MacBook and an iMac and moved the keyboard / mouse control across each device by merely moving the mouse pointer from screen to screen across the devices. The keyboard follows the mouse pointer to the next device.

You might want to just wait a bit and upgrade to Monterey when it is released in the very near future.

The only way to do it is to unpair from one computer and then re-pair them on the other computer. Then reverse the process when switching back. That is just how human interface devices work in Bluetooth, they must be "owned" by a single device.

To facilitate this a bit easier, enable the Bluetooth menu on the menubar and then turn them off on the computer and turn them on on the other computer.

Hello sachin21jan,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about using a keyboard with your Mac. We're happy to help.

Your keyboard will need to be paired with the computer to work. When the keyboard is paired, it only inputs on that single computer. To get it to input on the other computer, you need to pair it to that computer. To do that, you may need to unpair it from the other Mac first, then you should be able to pair it to the second Mac computer: Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support

Apple doesn't' have a separate setting on those keyboards, but you may be able to find third-party options. Cheers.
