Can I close the lid on my new Mac Book Air while transferring using home WiFi?

My two computers are talking, but WiFi is slow. Mac Book says it will be 5 hours to transfer from old Mac Mini. This is my first time with a laptop. If I close the lid and move the Mac Book off the table, will that shut down the transfer? TIA

If you want a reliable transfer I suggest using Time machine from your old Mac and connect via cable to your new Mac. I have not tested on my MBA with the lid close when transferring but unit may sleep when you close the lid.
