exporting messages

I have read how to print out (or save as PDF) message strings. However, when I do this, all of the images show as big black boxes.

How can I export complete message strings WITH the photos. PDF is a fine format, but any format that will accomodate the images and the text would be okay.

Also, any method, whether starting on my iPhone or my laptop (both most current OS) would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are 3rd party commercial products that can extract Messages from an iPhone. That might be the best option. iExplorer, iBackup Viewer, PhoneView, or CopyTrans Contacts

But when you export Messages on Mac the PDF contains black boxes covering the images. But the images are still there underneath the top layer. You will need a graphics application capable of revealing the layers in the PDF. That would be Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer or other imaging application. You can then delete the top layers containing the black boxes that are trying to protect your private information in Messages. The images beneath will then be visible and you can re-save back to a PDF. This can be a somewhat tedious process as there are many individual layers, etc. which is why I recommend purchasing one of the Apps listed above to make it far easier. They can extract to a PDF without the redaction black boxes on images and some of them can export to CSV format as well.
