Storage use doubled from 70GB to 112GB when I set up my brand new phone!

I transferred my old iphone 6 data directly from my old phone last night (instead of using my updated backup) to my new 13 pro Max and now my used storage is practically double on my brand new phone. Why? I only had 70 GB total used, now it’s 112 GB used out of my 256GB phone. Help. How can I reduce back to the 70GB it should be??

Hi JYW9,

It appears that you transferred your data from your iPhone 6 to your new iPhone 13 Pro Max, and you're seeing the storage higher than you expected. Can you tell us what's using the most storage of your iPhone? It can help us determine what might be going on and possible next steps.

Also, do you notice that storage is the same after restarting your new iPhone? It may seem like a simple step, but it can sometimes help resolve issues: Restart your iPhone

It turns out the bulk of it was all of the music I had stored on my actual device from the old days when I used to transfer my cds to my itunes on my old laptop. Those don’t get stored/copied in i cloud, so I wasn’t accounting for those 36+ GB of music in addition to what was getting transferred from the cloud. I did a device-to-device transfer and all is ok now👍🏻 Thank you!
