If the Yahoo Sports app doesn’t support AirPlay to your setup, then that’s their decision, and there is no alternative for that. Content providers can decide what to support, to the model.
They do have an app for Apple TV (for software version tvOS 11.3 or later), so you don’t have to use AirPlay with an Apple TV (4th generation or later).
