Live Photos from FaceTime aren't saving

I'm seeing a lot of other people are having this issue, and haven't yet found anyone who's been able to solve it. I'm using a 2019 MacBook Pro, running Big Sur (the most recent OS as of the time I'm writing this). I occasionally FaceTime with friends, and when I take Live Photos, it clearly looks like the photos are being captured (the message comes up and says that an image's been captured) but the images never save anywhere. Most recently, I was FaceTiming with a friend who was using a 2017 MacBook Air running Catalina and I encountered the issue.

If the person I'm FaceTiming with is on an iPhone, everything works exactly as it should, but I have no idea why my ability to save these photos should depend on what device the other person is using. I've tried signing out of iCloud, turning off iCloud photos, rebooting, you name it. Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening, and what can be done to fix it?
