Massive iOS System Storage Utilization after data transfer to 13 Pro

Just transferred data using Quick Start for my mother and wife. In both cases, after migration almost half of their physical storage was occupied by System (50GB and 113GB).

with iOS 14.7 on iPhone 11, system is only 8GB. What happened and how can this be resolved?

As lobsterghost1 suggested, attempted to backup the phone however the phone would consistently disconnect and reset during the process. Definitely the Quick Start transfer resulted in the phone being in bad state.

To resolve, I ended up erasing all content and settings. Then I backed up the old phone using iTunes (Win10). Finally, performed a new phone setup with the new phone using the backup. After this, phone is in good shape and system storage usage is <5GB.

thanks for the suggestions.

according to my mother, this was a less than ideal transition as she had over 40GB of 128GB free space and I agree. This transition from 11 (14.7, 128GB) to 13 Pro (15.0, 128GB) should have been more seamless and bug free (result in bad state target phone) Hope Apple resolves this for the future.

thanks for the suggestions.
