Samsung - T5 1TB External USB SSD Drive Compatibility

Has any one converted to an external SSD drive using Samsung - T5 1TB External USB Type C Portable Solid State Drive - Deep black for a 2017 21.5" i-Mac?

Model:MU-PA1T0B

SKU:6026202

I recently upgraded my os from Catilina to Big Sur and am looking at Jack's 9=15 article on steps to convert to a bootable external SSD drive. The options of SSD's he selects G-drive and LaCie don't quuite meet my needs (small size or too expensive).

Found the Samsung T-5 at Best Buy but reading the reviews I get conflicting comments on acceptability for use as an os. bootable drive.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Bill S.

I have been using several Samsung T5 drives as boot drives for years on two different iMacs. As was already mentioned, the first thing to do, is use Disk Utility to erase the T5. When Disk Utility opens, Select "View" then select "Show All Devices". In the Disk Utility side bar, select "Samsung Portable SSD T5 Media". Then select "Erase". In the dropdown name your drive. Then select "Scheme: GUID Partition Map and Format: APFS". Then select "Erase". Now download the macOS Big Sur installer from the App Store. When the macOS Big Sur installer opens, select your T5 as the destination for the installation.

If you wish to transfer all your data use Migration Assistant in the Applications/ Utilities Folder.
