iPhone 12 face recognition

Just got my upgraded phone from sprint/t-mobile. Setting it up and see only facial recognition is a option.. Unacceptable. Touch ID was okay, convenient, safer, and way more convenient. I'll probably return the phone and get one without this AI ********.

Hello Mojoe1960,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities! We understand that you purchased an iPhone 12 and you're only seeing an option to use Face ID instead of Touch ID.

That is correct as all iPhone models from the iPhone X and newer no longer have a Home button and utilize Face ID instead: iPhone and iPad models that support Face ID - Apple Support

If you'd like to learn more about how Face ID helps protect your information, check out the following support article: About Face ID advanced technology - Apple Support

You can also turn off Face ID or turn off Face ID for specific items only if you prefer:

Take care.

I must say I completely agree. It’s especially super annoying if you are trying to unlock your phone in the dark and have to wait for multiple face attempts before it lets you put a passcode in. I also significantly miss the ability to just pick up my phone to unlock it when sirri reminds me that she can’t run my command because I have to unlock my phone. It just leads users to increase the locking time on their phones which isn’t more secure either. The inconvenience on the user with face match is significant and after having my new iPhone 12 for 9 months the irritation has still not passed.

Yes, I realize this. The point is I feel it is a bad call. Touch ID is superior. It's faster, more convenient, less intrusive and invasive, and in my option more secure. In addition many of us have to wear masks a lot. The Face ID struggles to work when I wear a mask and or sunglasses let along both. I also found that I can use a photo of me to open the phone via Face ID. It took like 5 tries but it worked. Not cool. It was a stupid move by apple and they need to just admit it and return to Touch ID. I'll probably return my 12 for a SE because of this.
