Safari Version 15.0 Loops & Crashes During Loading On Major Websites

Ever since I updated to Safari 15.0 (15612.1.29.41.4, 15612), I cannot use certain sites.

The page will 3/4 load, immediately reload, try to load again, and finally fail and crash.

Thus far this occurs on major websites which are critical (to me) for business functions such as:

  • Hilton
  • Bank of America
  • Marriot

Until this is resolved, Reddit users in the MacOS forum are saying to use the official developer technology preview version of Safari 15 (Purple compass face).

Hey ShadowDancer1000,

It sounds like you're having some trouble loading certain websites with Safari. We'll be happy to help out.

Does this occur only when using Safari? What happens if you try another browser? If it's only happening in Safari check to see if you have any active extensions which could be interfering with these websites. You could remove or deselect the extensions to check. Here's some more information about managing Safari extensions: Get extensions to customize Safari on Mac - Apple Support.

Keep us updated if the issue only occurs with Safari or other browsers.

Cheers.

I have the same issue and report (webpage tries to reload, DYLD missing symbol issue in webkit). Safari 15.0 on Mac Catalina 10.15.7 crashes on my bank login page, the PO package tracking page, and a couple of others repeatedly; I cannot use those sites with Safari any more. The sites work in FireFox and Chrome. Other webpages work find in Safari. I cleared all extensions (I had only one), cleared all caches and website info (a major inconvenience), and histories from Safari, and rebooted: the problem still exists. It was not an issue in Safari 14.x; it is not an extension issue. It is specific to the Safari 15.0 release.

Followup...I tried some of the suggestions on other discussions (here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253171621 and here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/latest-update-10-15-7-with-safari-15-0-that-wont-load-pages.2312227/?post=30323251#post-30323251) to a) reinstall Safari 15.0 and to start in safe mode. Neither helped me -- I still crash on my bank site (actually pretty much any site with really secure login checks in place). Grabbing source for the login page at my bank mid-crash shows an error loading jquery-3.3.1.min.js along with other errors in evaluating browsertype (TypeError:undefined is not an object (evaluating '$.browser.mosilla' (ui.core.js:1) -- same issue for msie. (cornerz.js:1) The interesting thing is that the page actually displays for a second before the dread "A problem repeated occurred" comes up. Web development is not my forte, so I don't know what this means exactly, but I'm posting it in case it makes sense to anyone else.

I have that precise version installed, 15.0 (15612.1.29.41.4, 15612), and today Safari subprocesses are crashing all of the time with the same missing symbol gripe. So I think that the problem isn't fixed, yet.

It certainly has not been fixed yet. I have an associate with the same problem. In some cases, I resorted to just using my Windows laptop - since I have so many links and flows that have to go through a website in my daily operation and don't want to be bothered hitting random page load crashes. I know I can reset the default browser to XYZ, but I don't think most people realize how tightly integrated MacOS is with Safari until you lose Safari's functionality.
