Burn DVD from iMAC

Hello

I copied a wedding video from a SONY HD camcorder to my iMAC with macOS Big Sur version 11.6. I just want to burn some DVD's to be played in Blue Ray players or regular DVD players. I am not looking to edit the wedding video just copy on DVD's. My first attempt to burn a DVD copied but tells me the DVD is not compatible on my blue ray or DVD player when I try and play it. Is there special software required to be installed on a MAC to support this? Can someone provide instructions on the steps required. Thank you

Your consumer DVD/Blu-Ray player cannot play a disc that is not properly formatted and finished.

And the file format of the video you copied from the camcorder must be compatible with DVD or BR.

There IS special software required for that. I don't believe iMovie can do the job alone.

Roxio and Wondershare have apps for that.

Add to DIJohnson: as he said you can't just copy any movie file to a DVD in order to be watched by a dvd player. For example: the encoder must be mpeg2. Therefore apposite sw are needed. Beside the two already cited you can find some in App Store, mostly freeware. Be sure to download (in case) one that has been updated recently as many little (and nice) utilities are often abandoned after a brief publication and not complete compatible with recent OSs.

(wanted ti answer to apicelj, sorry)

What may be Getting in the Way:

A. DVD and Blu Ray Player

Manufacturer:

Companies that play recorded discs are pretty picky when it comes to playing recorded content (which likely why it’s not working). Sony is a common brand that does read these discs, however. So, consider Sony as the DVD player brand to use, when it comes to playing content. It all has to do with the issue of piracy (burned content).

B. DVD Formats:

There’s two DVD formats types:

  • DVD -
  • DVD +

Note: DVD + tends to be the most commonly-playable format type for playing burned content.

C.  File Format:

AVI is the file format that always works for me. So, consider using the same.
