Maps sound options IOS15

Hi AadNL,

I had the same issue and ended up on a lengthy call with Apple Support today trying to get to the bottom of it. Took a long time for them to understand how this was a problem, but seems this feature was removed in iOS15. There is nowhere to select audio output, only option is to disconnect from the car bluetooth.

They were very understanding and said they would report it up internally, but suggested I report via apple.com/feedback and encourage any others with the same frustrations to do the same. If you mention safety it will definitely be more likely to be noticed! Hopefully this gets noticed and addressed in future updates.

Only Apple knows why we lost functionality; however by using Air Play you can select iPhone for voice directions. It’s a minor inconvenience to do so each time but worth it until Apple restores that functionality in Apple Maps. I don’t like Google Maps

Dragging to the control center, choose Airplay in the upper right corner. Instead of car accessory system, choose iPhone. Does that work?

This reply is not even remotely helpful. AirPlay is irrelevant to the question.

The problem is that TC, and myself, cannot get the spoken audio for the Maps app to come through the iPhone rather than through the car speakers. The app will not let us change the audio source. There is nothing in the Settings that allows for customization of the audio source.

I do not want the directions to come through the car audio, I want them to come through the iPhone. How do I make it do that?

I agree, I don’t want to use Google maps, I WAS doing this easily in Apple Maps before the update so why did we lose some functionality?

I had the same issue and found a solution that you can’t save. Apple sent a link to airplay. When you plug-in your directions, go to air play. By default it will show Sync (car) and the option for iPhone and voila the directions are coming through your phone. Unfortunately we will have to do this each time until Apple comes up with a fix so we can choose from Maps app rather than AirPlay.
