Hi,

Any information about the Epson model?

If it is an AirPrint-enabled model (About AirPrint - Apple Support), you should be able to print without an additional app, provided that the printer and the iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (router).

Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the printer is supported (https://support.epson.net/appinfo/iprint/en/) by Epson's iPrint app, that may be an alternative solution (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/epson-iprint/id326876192#?platform=ipad).

If absolutely necessary, in case of a USB-only printer, it could be connected by cable to a computer, which then would act as an intermediary using special software (no recommendation, but examples include third-party apps like Printopia, handyPrint, Print n Share/WePrint), and Printer Pro/Desktop). The printer would be shared on a Wi-Fi network, in order to allow printing from an iPad.

In all likelihood, your new Epson printer will support AirPrint and will not require a supporting App for normal printing.

iOS/iPadOS natively use a wireless print technology known as AirPrint. This uses WiFi - and not a wired USB connection to your iPad or iPhone.

See:

Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

Connect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network – Apple Support

About AirPrint - Apple Support

Some printer manufacturers have a suitable companion App that provides additional Printing or other capabilities - sometimes using a web-based print/support service.

If your printer is not AirPrint capable, you might need to consider connecting a non-AirPrint printer to your PC or Mac computer - and install a “helper application” that allows the computer to emulate AirPrint capabilities; one such option is Readdle Printer Pro, for which suitable software for your PC is available. A link to the PC software is included from this page:

A further standalone alternative is to consider installing a dedicated Print Server Appliance on your network - and connect your printer to this. One example is the Lantronix xPrintServer, although the cost of this solution may exceed that of a basic printer.
