No matter what I do I cannot get the remote app to work with my Apple TV I have Apple TV 4th gen latest model and Apple Watch series 6 and cannot for the life of me pair the 2. My phone pairs as soon as I bring it close enough the Apple TV shows up on the screen but my watch doesn’t connect and Apple TV does not see it inside the settings. What to do?
I did hear back from Apple (they were very polite and professional which was nice). In this case I updated the software on the phone (I didn’t see there a new one as yet) and this fixed it - remote app on watch worked again.
However my Apple Watch still does not show under the Remotes and Devices section on Apple TV (4K). Strange. But at least with the latest iOS update on the phone it started working again.

Updated to watchOS 8.1.1 which finally resolved the issue for me.
Upgrading to latest versions of the watch/phone/tv os seems to have done the trick for most people.
I noticed my wifi access point blocked apples multicast traffic. After reconfiguring it I was able to connect my Apple watch to Apple TV. Maybe that helps some of you too.
Upgrading my phone to iOS 15.1 also solved the problem for me.
Same problem. The Remote app on the watch (gen4 Watch os8.1) doesnt show my Apple TV (3rd gen). Only the four digit code. But the tv doesn’t find my watch.
But when I’m watching while using my paired phone as a remote, the watch displays the white/red „now playing“ icon on the top-middle. When I touch that, I can control the Apple TV.
just not when I try to use the app directly.
That's not what they asked. They want to pair the apple watch and the apple tv. Those docs are here, but they're not working for many of us.

problem. My Apple TV HD (4th Gen) with the most up to date software is not seeing my Apple Watch (4th Gen) with the most up to date software. Under “remote app and devices” my watch does not appear, no matter how close or far from the physical box I am.
please help!
I’m having the same issue, and this page you linked to is completely irrelevant. The Apple TV is now completely unable to recognize my Apple Watch, and vice versa. When will Apple actually start listening to the complaints in Communities?
