I got a message that storage on my iphone was maxed out. I had to delete text conversations and other stored data. Can I increase my icloud storage so I don't run into this problem again?

iCloud storage will not increase the storage capacity of your phone; although it can be used to partially offload or reduce the size of some on-phone items.
However, you DO need to get stuff “off” your phone.
Optimizing photo storage may gain you some elbow-room if it’s not already enabled.
